Ingredients
  

For the Base
  • 6 large Eggs can use egg substitutes for lighter version
  • 2 cups Milk any plant-based milk for dairy-free
  • 6 slices Bread swap for gluten-free bread if needed
For the Filling
  • 1 pound Sausage may substitute turkey or chicken sausage
  • 2 cups Cheddar Cheese can use mozzarella or cheese blend
  • 1 cup Onions can also include spinach or mushrooms
  • 1 cup Bell Peppers adds sweetness and texture
To Season
  • 1 teaspoon Salt adjust to taste
  • 1 teaspoon Pepper adjust to taste

Method
 

Cooking Instructions
  1. Cook the sausage in a large skillet over medium heat until browned and crumbly, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Sauté chopped onions and bell peppers in the same skillet over medium heat for about 4-5 minutes.
  3. Grease a large baking dish with butter or cooking spray, then layer the cubed bread in the bottom.
  4. Spread the cooked sausage and sautéed vegetables evenly over the cubed bread.
  5. Sprinkle cheddar cheese on top of the sausage and vegetables.
  6. Whisk together eggs, milk, salt, and pepper in a mixing bowl, then pour evenly over the layers.
  7. If time allows, cover and refrigerate overnight to meld flavors; otherwise, skip this step.
  8. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  9. Bake the casserole in the preheated oven for about 45 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Let it rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing and serving.
