Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Peel the onions and cut the tops off, keeping the root intact. Cut vertical slices around each onion.
  2. Create a breading station with three bowls: one for seasoned flour, one for egg and buttermilk, and one for breadcrumbs.
  3. Dredge each onion in the flour mixture, then dip in the egg mixture, and finally roll in the breadcrumbs.
  4. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 5 minutes.
  5. Lightly spray the basket with cooking spray and place one coated onion inside. Spray the top lightly with cooking spray.
  6. Air fry the onion for 15–18 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Check halfway through.
  7. Remove from the air fryer, let it cool slightly, and serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce.
