- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Melt ½ cup of butter in a mixing bowl, then stir in 1 cup of granulated sugar until combined. Add 2 egg yolks and 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract, blending until smooth.
- Add a few drops of green gel food coloring to the butter mixture and stir until the desired shade is reached.
- Gradually mix in 2.75 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and a pinch of salt until just combined.
- Roll the dough into approximately 12 balls, about 1 inch in diameter, and coat them in granulated sugar.
- Place the dough balls on the prepared baking sheet, spaced about 2 inches apart, and bake for 10 to 11 minutes.
- Immediately press a red heart sprinkle into the center of each cookie after removing them from the oven.
- Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 2 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
