Ingredients

For the Goulash
  • 1 pound Ground Beef Can substitute with turkey or plant-based meat.
  • 1 head Cabbage Cut into uniform pieces.
  • 2 cups Tomato Sauce Consider crushed tomatoes or homemade sauce.
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika
Optional Ingredient
  • 1 cup Macaroni Can use gluten-free pasta.

Equipment

  • large pot

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a large pot, heat a splash of oil over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef, breaking it apart and cooking until fully browned for about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Stir in the chopped cabbage, mixing it well with the ground beef. Cook for an additional 5-8 minutes until the cabbage begins to wilt.
  3. Pour the tomato sauce into the pot and stir thoroughly to combine. Allow the mixture to simmer over medium heat for about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Sprinkle in your spices—salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Stir well to incorporate, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 30 minutes.
  5. If adding macaroni, incorporate it into the pot now, stirring to combine. Cook for another 10 minutes until the macaroni is al dente.
  6. Once the goulash is thickened to your liking, remove it from the heat and serve hot, garnished with fresh herbs if desired.

Notes

Browning the meat well enhances flavor. Cut the cabbage uniformly for even cooking. Simmering melds flavors, making it comforting.
